Our History
Visitors and guests of 500 West Hotel stay in a building that was designed by architect Frank W. Stevenson and constructed in 1924. The 500 West Hotel is one of San Diego’s most recognized and beloved historical landmarks. Before undergoing its multi-million dollar renovation in 2003, this icon on the San Diego skyline originally housed the U.S. Armed Services YMCA. This facility is famous for providing a safe retreat for U.S. Naval servicemen since WW II.
